Well, it is about that time of year again…the time of year when the sweet but hormone ravaged teens of the next generation say goodbye to high school and head out into the world.  But, not before leaving us with one last piece of themselves…the senior picture.  There has never been a senior picture taken that wasn’t regrettable…ever!  The senior picture has always been a rite of passage in some ways or at least a glimpse of what we looked like before the world got ahold of us.  It puts on display both our innocents and our ignorance…not necessarily in that order.  In some ways, the senior picture tells a story about our youth…most of the time, this is a story we wish would soon be forgotten.  For one generation, this is a story of mullets and mustaches and for another, super-awesome poofy hair and turtleneck sweaters.  For one person, it may be a reminder that just because we wear our football jersey in the picture, doesn’t mean we are actually a good football player at all…nice try hotshot.  How about a prop in my picture…perhaps my car or maybe big block letters and numbers indicating the year of my graduation? Terrible ideas!  But wait, how about I hold something like my trumpet?  Really, really bad!  Typically, whether it be because of our immaturity or one too many pulls from the bottle of purple passion, these pictures are a disaster and, in general, make us all look like complete jack wagons.  Going forward, I say no more.  Why would we want a picture of ourselves at a time in our lives when we are the most insecure and vulnerable…a time when we truly have no idea who we are or what we want in life?  The answer is simple, we do it for the laughs…we humans are programmed to make fun of each other and we fancy an opportunities to ridicule those around us.  Sad but true.  In the end, that is what life is all about…sucks doesn’t it.
