MSU Band Apologizes for Playing MMMBop

Springfield, MO – MSU Pride Band issued an apology stating that they used poor judgment when they played “MMMBop” downtown on the square this month. “MMMBop” is a song written and performed by the American pop rock band Hanson and is quite offensive to anyone who has ever listened to music.
“Frankly, I’d rather hear two squirrels in a meat grinder than listen to that garbage,” said Nora Hensley, a grandmother of 8, “It is just an awful song. I literally wanted to go back in time and head-butt Hanson’s mother and father.”
MSU officials have stated “that selection will not be played again in a public venue. Someone please help us find a song that isn’t offensive to someone. Please.” Last month Missouri State University’s Pride Band played “Dixie” as part of the dedication of Park Central Square, which caused quite a stir. This month, they were met with the same backlash while they belted out the 1997 hit single from the album Middle of Nowhere.
“MMMBop,” a song about absolutely nothing, has come to represent corrupt record company greed by forcing stale bubblegum pop-crap down listeners’ ears. ”We have a lot of complaints from the community,” said Morris Dean, who represents the group PWMS, People with Musical Standards.
MSU band leaders are taking a poll on their next set list where voters can choose songs including, “Smack my Bitch Up”, “Achy Breaky Heart”, “Cop Killer”, “Wannabe”, “Thong Song”, or “Macarena”.

Hanson is a very talented band and they still play. You should youtube them. Mmmbop has a lot of meaning if you read the lyrics and they actually wrote it.
Offensive? What the heck is offensive about mmmbop except your lack of knowledge about the band. But “Smack my Bitch Up” and “Thong Song” is perfectly okay and not offensive?
Back in my day, every college marching band played only two songs, “Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog” and “MacArthur Park”. That was when alumni all over the country began the tradition of leaving the stadium at halftime to drink in the parking lot and came back loaded in time for the second half. To counter that, a lot of colleges began printing “no in and out” on the back of the tickets.
