Springfield MO.- Seventh congressional candidate Scott Eckersley has vowed not only to take a pay cut if elected, but to cut other expenses by living in his camper van by the Potomac River in Washington D.C.. “I recently came out and said I would take a lower salary from the $174,000.00 representatives make down to $12,000.00. That is just the start to cut spending in government. I not only want to mimic what folks in my district are making, I want to lead by example and exceed their poverty expectations.”, said Eckersley speaking on a corner in downtown Springfield.
Eckersley also added, “I don’t need a million dollar home to live in while serving in Washington. If you look at it, Congress is not even in session most of the time. Living in the van is just the start of how we can cut government expense and waste. I will do my laundry in the Potomac River and beat my clothes on rocks like our founding fathers did. As far as dining on the lobbyist paid meals of imported Japanese Kobe beef, Russian caviar, and French wine you can forget about that. I’ll just take a fish from the Potomac, eat Velveeta and white bread sandwiches and drink beer that is so cheap you have to spit the seeds out when you drink it.”
Eckersley also wants his republican opponent Billy Long to take the extreme poverty pledge as soon as he makes one up. “It all starts with elected officials.”, he commented, “no matter how goofy the subject is.” A spokesman for the Long campaign said Billy could not be reached for comment because he was on vacation after an exhausting August primary.
