Sparta, MO—Inspired by The Dickerson Park Zoo’s ZooDoo program, Herb Langford will begin taking reservations for YouDoo — composted Homo sapiens manure — on Friday.
The cost is $12 per bucket. A normal pickup truck load is between eight and ten buckets. Customers can request smaller sizes but are asked to bring their own Tupperware or Glad bags for smaller loads.
YouDoo is available for pickup Sundays at 3 p.m. beginning March 1.
Langford says, “we’re the number one place for number two.”
He says his homemade products are shredded, then placed into piles before being covered with black plastic and heated to high temperatures. This method of composting kills bacteria and diseases, sterilizing the human compost. Every three days the piles are agitated and, after approximately two and a half weeks, the compost is mixed with aged bark chunks, and packed into buckets ready for use.
The end result is a sweet-smelling, easy to handle, quality compost-high in nutrients.
Langford hopes to raise awareness with his YouDoo program and suggests that more gardeners use their own natural byproducts as growth enhancers. “I’m excited to get some YouDoo. I heard it is guaranteed to be weed free!” said Shirley Hanks, a longtime Springfield resident who missed out on the ZooDoo program.
