Springfield, MO – After an intense search, and a months of auditioning conductors, the Springfield Symphony is excited to announce its new conductor/musical director Maestro Joel McHale. McHale (born November 20, 1971) is an American comedian, actor, writer, television producer, television personality, and voice artist. He is best known for hosting The Soup and for his role as Jeff Winger on the NBC comedy series Community.
McHale said, “I’ve had a lot of experience conducting….lots of things. And music is something that I’m passionate about. I’m thrilled to have been selected for this opportunity, and my cast mates at Community have promised to make special appearances during the season.”
The hire was surprising as most felt that Maestro Kyle Pickett – a talented and visionary musician with an impressive track record of orchestra building who is a charismatic cultural leader in the communities he serves – had the upper hand with the selection committee.
“Uhmm…wait,” said Nancy Newborne, the assistant to the selection committee, “you mean we were not supposed to hire Joel? I swear the committee Googled his name and pointed to him and said ‘let’s hire this guy from California’ and I started the process.”
Chevy Chase has already made plans to crash into the Springfield Orchestra in a very awkward manner on at least 3-4 occasions.
